Matthew 5:4-6
Verse of the Week
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.”
~ Matthew 5:6

1) Matthew 5:4 – “Blessed are those who MOURN for they will be COMFORTED.” 

  • 2 Corinthians 7:10 – “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”
  • Isaiah 61:2-3 – “… to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning…”
  • Luke 7:13-15 – “When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry.’… Then the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.”
  • 2 Corinthians 1:3 – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

2) Matthew 5:5 – “Blessed are the MEEK for they will INHERIT THE EARTH.” 

  • Matthew 11:29 – “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
  • Isaiah 53:7 – “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth, he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.”
  • Psalm 37:11 – “But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.”
  • Romans 4:13 – “It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.”
  • Romans 8:17 – “And if children, then heirs - heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
  • Matthew 5:6 – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.” 
  • Psalm 42:1-2 – “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?”
  • Isaiah 26:9 – “My soul yearns for you in the night, in the morning my spirit longs for you.”
  • Psalm 107:8-9 – “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”
  • Revelation 22:17 – “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who is thirsty come, and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”
