Dealing with Anxieties During COVID

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.”
~ John 14:1

1) The Lord doesn’t want us to be worried or anxious!

  • Matthew 6:25 – “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear, is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes.”
  • Matthew 6:26 – “Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?”
  • Matthew 6:27 – “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
  • Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
  • Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
  • John 14:1 – “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God, believe also in me.”

2) Being anxious can damage our health and our spirit!

  • Proverbs 12:25 – “Anxiety in the heart of man weighs it down.  But a good word makes it better.”
  • Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
  • Proverbs 12:22 – “A cheerful heart is good medicine.”
  • Psalm 119:143 – “Trouble and distress have come upon me but your commands give me delight.”
  • Isaiah 35:4 – “Say to those who have an anxious heart.  ‘Be strong, fear not!’”

3) The Lord can give us peace in the midst of any circumstance!

  • Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; and I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
  • Psalm 112:7-8 – “He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is steady; he will be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.”
  • Psalm 94:19 – “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
  • Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
  • I Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:16 – “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.  The Lord be with you all.”

4) Scripture gives us excellent advice on addressing any anxiety!

  • Philippians 4:4 – “Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!”
  • Philippians 4:5 – “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
  • Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
  • Philippians 4:7 – “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
  • Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”
  • Philippians 4:9 – “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.”
