2 Kings 6:8-20
Verse of the Week
7 “For God does has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.”
~ 2 Timothy 1:7

1) Fear most often is from our flesh!

  • Fear is typically not from the Lord.
  • Satan uses fear as his primary weapon to discourage us and rob us of precious victories in Christ.
  • FDR quote – “There is nothing to fear, except fear itself.”
  • Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…”
  • Psalm 119:120 – “My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.”
  • Proverbs 29:25 – “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”

2) Faith is from the Spirit!

  • 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.”
  • Isaiah 43:1 – “Don’t fear for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name.”
  • Isaiah 41:13 – “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’”
  • Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

3) Faith overcomes fear because God is with us!

  • The Spirit is stronger than our flesh, the world, and our enemies.
  • We don’t need to fear anything since God is with us.
  • Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the Lord and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
  • Psalm 34:7 – “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”
  • 2 Kings 6:15 – “When the servant of the man of God got up… an army with horses and chariots surrounded the city.  ‘Oh no, my lord!  What shall we do?’  the servant asked.”
  • 2 Kings 6:16 – “Don’t be afraid, the prophet answered.  Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
  • 2 Kings 6:17 – “And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’  Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
