Praise to God for a Living Hope

3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.”
~ I Peter 1:3-4

1) Introduction to 1 Peter!

  • Who wrote it? - I Peter 1:1 – Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ
  • Who did he write it to? – I Peter 1:1-2  – “To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood.”
  • Salutation – I Peter 1:2 - "Grace and peace be yours in abundance.”
  • When written – Probably between AD 62-64 during Nero’s reign.
  • Where written – Peter references Babylon which was likely symbolic for Rome.
  • Why written – To teach, encourage believers to be victorious in the face of suffering.

2) Praise to God for new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ!

  • I Peter 1:3 – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.”

3) Our inheritance is in heaven!

  • I Peter 1:4 – “… And into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.  This inheritance is kept for you in heaven.”

4) We rejoice even though we are suffering now!

  • I Peter 1:5 – “…Who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.”
  • I Peter 1:6 – “In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.”

5) Our faith is precious – worth more than gold!

  • I Peter 1:7 – “These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith – of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire – may result in praise, glory and honor, when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

6) We are filled with an inexpressible joy thanks to our faith in Christ and our love for him!

  • I Peter 1:8 – “Though you have not seen him, you love him, and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”

Alabar a Dios por una Esperanza Viva

3 ¡Alabado sea Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo! Por su gran misericordia, nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo, para que tengamos una esperanza viva 4 y recibamos una herencia indestructible, incontaminada e inmarchitable.
~ I Pedro 1:3-4

1) Introduccion a 1 Pedro!

  • Quien lo escribio? - I Pedro 1:1 – Pedro, un apostol de Jesucristo.
  • A quien se lo escribio? – I Pedro 1:1-2  – “A los elegidos, extranjeros dispersos por el Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia, según la previsión de Dios el Padre, mediante la obra santificadora del Espíritu, para obedecer a Jesucristo y ser redimidos por su sangre.”
  • Saludo – I Pedro 1:2 – “Que abunden en ustedes la gracia y la paz.”
  • Cuando fue escrito – Probablemente entre 62-64 d.C. Durante el reinado de Nero.
  • Donde fue escrito – Pedro hace referencia a Babilonia que podria simbolizar Roma.
  • Porque fue escrito – Para enseñar, motivar creyentes a ser victoriosos en tiempo de sufrir.

2) Alabar a Dios por nacer de nuevo en esperanza viva atraves de la resureccion de Jesus!

  • I Pedro 1:3 – “¡Alabado sea Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo!  Por su gran misericordia, nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo, para que tengamos una esperanza viva.”

3) Nuestra herencia esta en el  cielo!

  • I Pedro 1:4 – “…Y recibamos una herencia indestructible, incontaminada e inmarchitable. Tal herencia está reservada en el cielo para ustedes.”

4) Nos regocijamos aun cuando estamos en sufrimiento!

  • I Pedro 1:5 – “…A quienes el poder de Dios protege mediante la fe hasta que llegue la salvación que se ha de revelar en los últimos tiempos.”
  • I Pedro 1:6 – “Esto es para ustedes motivo de gran alegría, a pesar de que hasta ahora han tenido que sufrir diversas pruebas por un tiempo.”

5) Nuestra fe es preciosa – vale mas que el oro!

  • I Pedro 1:7 – “El oro, aunque perecedero, se acrisola al fuego.  Así también la fe de ustedes, que vale mucho más que el oro, al ser acrisolada por las pruebas demostrará que es digna de aprobación, gloria y honor cuando Jesucristo se revele.”

6) Estamos llenos de un gozo indescriptible gracias a nuestra fe en Cristo y nuesto amor por el!

  • I Pedro 1:8 – “Ustedes lo aman a pesar de no haberlo visto; y, aunque no lo ven ahora, creen en él y se alegran con un gozo indescriptible y glorioso, pues están obteniendo la meta de su fe, que es su salvación.”
