Suffering For Christ

Verse of the Week
21 “To this you were called because Christ suffered for you leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps.”
~ I Peter 2:21

1) The Lord wants us to submit to authority even to those who are harsh taskmasters!

  • I Peter 2:18 – “Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.”
  • Colossians 3:22-24 – “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
  • I Peter 2:19 – “For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God.”

2) When we suffer for Christ, it is commendable before God! 

  • I Peter 2:20 – “But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.”
  • I Peter 2:21 – “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”
  • Philippians 1:29 – “For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him.”

3) Christ set an incredible example for us when he suffered for our sake!

  • I Peter 2:22 – “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
  • I Peter 2:23 – “When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats.  Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”
  • Isaiah 53:7 – “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to  the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.”

4) Christ’s suffering has healed us.  Our Good Shepherd is also our Sacrificial lamb! 

  • I Peter 2:24 – “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”
  • I Peter 2:25 – “For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”

21 “Para esto fueron llamados, porque Cristo sufrió por ustedes,
dándoles ejemplo para que sigan sus pasos.”
~ I Pedro 2:21

1) El Señor quiere que nos sometamos a la autoridad aun con los que son duros maestros!

  • Pedro 2:18 – “Criados, sométanse con todo respeto a sus amos, no solo a los buenos y comprensivos, sino también a los insoportables.”
  • Colosenses 3:22-24 – “Esclavos, obedezcan en todo a sus amos terrenales, no solo cuando ellos los estén mirando, como si ustedes quisieran ganarse el favor humano, sino con integridad de corazón y por respeto al Señor. Hagan lo que hagan, trabajen de buena gana, como para el Señor y no como para nadie en este mundo, conscientes de que el Señor los recompensará con la herencia. Ustedes sirven a Cristo el Señor.  El que hace el mal pagará por su propia maldad, y en esto no hay favoritismos.”
  • I Pedro 2:19 – “Porque es digno de elogio que, por sentido de responsabilidad delante de Dios, se soporten las penalidades, aun sufriendo injustamente.”

2) Cuando sufrimos por Cristo, esto es un elogio ante el Señor!

  • I Pedro 2:20 – “Pero ¿cómo pueden ustedes atribuirse mérito alguno si soportan que los maltraten por hacer el mal?  En cambio, si sufren por hacer el bien, eso merece elogio delante de Dios.”
  • I Pedro 2:21 – “Para esto fueron llamados, porque Cristo sufrió por ustedes, dándoles ejemplo para que sigan sus pasos.”
  • Filipenses 1:29 – “Porque a ustedes se les ha concedido no solo creer en Cristo, sino también sufrir por él.”

3) Cristo ha dado un ejemplo increible para nosotros cuando sufrio por nuestro propio bien!

  • I Pedro 2:22 – “Él no cometió ningún pecado, ni hubo engaño en su boca.”
  • I Pedro 2:23 – “Cuando proferían insultos contra él, no replicaba con insultos; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que se entregaba a aquel que juzga con justicia.”
  • Isaias 53:7 – “Maltratado y humillado, ni siquiera abrió su boca; como cordero, fue llevado al matadero; como oveja, enmudeció ante su trasquilador.y ni siquiera abrió su boca.”

4) El sufrimiento de Cristo nos ha sanado.  Nuestro Buen Pastor es tambien nuestro cordero de sacrificio!

  • I Pedro 2:24 – “Él mismo, en su cuerpo, llevó al madero nuestros pecados, para que muramos al pecado y vivamos para la justicia.  Por sus heridas ustedes han sido sanados.”
  • I Pedro 2:25 – “Antes eran ustedes como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora han vuelto al Pastor que cuida de sus vidas."
