The Importance of Baptism

Verse of the Week 19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”

I. Introduction.
At the end of each gospel, Jesus gave his disciples instructions to carry out the great commission.
In Matthew 28:16-20: Jesus states this mission as follows: to make disciples of all nations, to baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and to teach them to obey all of Jesus' commands.
The first part of the mission involves bringing people into God's kingdom. We discussed the importance of evangelism in the past. This week we turn our attention to the importance of baptism.
II. Reasons to get baptized.
Baptism is not required for salvation but Christ commands it. (Matthew 28:19).
We become identified with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection. (Romans 6:1-4).
We make a public proclamation that we are a new creation in Christ. This heralds a new beginning and helps to promote Christ's kingdom.
We become cleansed, transformed, and are now able to walk differently. - "…and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ …" (I Peter 3:21).
Different from John's baptism for repentance (Acts 19:1-7).
Believer's baptism takes place after Christ came and is evidence of salvation and complying with God's command.
III. How to get baptized?
The greek word "Baptizo" means immersion in water.
The believer's baptism involves full immersion into a body of water, which symbolizes a complete spiritual cleansing.
Example of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:36-38).
IV. When to get baptized?
Infant baptism - no reference or example in scripture. Must be old enough to make an informed decision about getting baptized.
After repentance and salvation. "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved but whoever does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:16)
Should have full understanding of what it means to be baptized before taking this important step.

I. Introducción.
Al final de cada evangelio, Jesús dio instrucciones a sus discípulos para llevar a cabo la gran comisión.
En Mateo 28:16-20, Jesús establece esta misión de la siguiente manera: hacer discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizarlos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y enseñarles a obedecer todos sus mandamientos.
La primera parte de la misión consiste en traer personas al reino de Dios. Ya hablamos de la importancia de la evangelización. Esta semana nos centraremos en la importancia del bautismo.
II. Razones para bautizarse.
El bautismo no es necesario para la salvación, pero Cristo lo manda (Mateo 28:19).
Nos identificamos con Cristo en su muerte, sepultura y resurrección (Romanos 6:1-4).
Proclamamos públicamente que somos una nueva creación en Cristo. Esto anuncia un nuevo comienzo y ayuda a promover el reino de Cristo.
Somos purificados, transformados y ahora podemos vivir de una manera diferente. - "…y esta agua simboliza el bautismo que ahora también los salva; no quitando las impurezas del cuerpo, sino como la promesa de una buena conciencia hacia Dios. Los salva por la resurrección de Jesucristo..." (1 Pedro 3:21).
Es diferente del bautismo de Juan para el arrepentimiento (Hechos 19:1-7).
El bautismo del creyente se realiza después de la venida de Cristo y es evidencia de salvación y de cumplimiento del mandato de Dios.
III. ¿Cómo bautizarse?
La palabra griega "Baptizo" significa inmersión en agua.
El bautismo del creyente implica la inmersión total en agua, lo que simboliza una purificación espiritual completa.
Ejemplo de Felipe y el eunuco etíope (Hechos 8:36-38).
IV. ¿Cuándo bautizarse?
Bautismo infantil: no hay referencia ni ejemplo en las Escrituras. Debe tener la edad suficiente para tomar una decisión informada sobre el bautismo.
Después del arrepentimiento y la salvación. El que crea y sea bautizado, será salvo, pero el que no crea, será condenado (Marcos 16:16).
Debe comprender plenamente lo que significa ser bautizado antes de dar este importante paso.
